Opportunity Drive Direction Mosaics - Sols 2013, 2014 & 2015 + Gjøa Crater

Three quite similar looking 'drive direction' mosaics taken as Oppy headed west across repetitive sand ripples on sols 2013, 2014 and 2015. In the 2015 image however, the start of the rock pavement that Oppy drove to on 2017 can be seen in the middle distance. :)

A two frame L257 mosaic of Gjøa Crater that Oppy passed on sols 2014/2015 is also included here.

Opportunity - Block Island Panorama - Sols 1978 to 1990

Here is the 360 degree 'Block Island survey' panorama taken while Opportunity has been parked at and studying the large meteorite 'Block Island' (which can be seen at the bottom of the image with Oppy's IDD deployed on it. Parts of Endeavour crater, the long term destination of Oppy can be seen on the horizon.

New ripple map for the 'west route'

It is looking likey that Opportunity is going to take a westerly route around the large ripple patch ahead of her. Taking this path will take here off the edge of my previous 'ripple maps', however a more resent HiRISE image covers a bit more of this area. Here is a 'ripple map' of this image; Opportunity is just currently north of the big red patch (indicating large rover trapping ripples) left of centre.

Full Resolution (2913 x 5753) ( 5MB )
Half Resolution (1456 x 2876) ( 1MB )
Quarter Resolution (728 x 1438) ( 405kB )

I have to admit I don't really see the advantage of going that way myself, it is lot further and without any obvious paths through to my eye. I'm very interested in hearing what the pros have spotted.

If I had to guess I would suggest that the path would follow the bedrock as shown in this overlay of the ripple map and the raw image.
